~ Photography Homework ~ Lesson 1

I took my first class in Photography on April 23. It was just the basics, but it covered 4 lessons, and we had homework for each of the lessons. So far I have only managed to complete lesson 1. I followed the instructions, and then changed some of the parameters so that I could see for myself what each feature did.

I made a mistake in my first outdoor photos. I should have centered the sunflower center straight into the sun. Instead I did it to the side and you can see the shadows that it produced in the photo.

I wanted more red, so I changed the angle of the camera to get more red in the picture. This photo was taken using a 18 zoom lens, inside. The histogram fell short on the white column. The f-stop and shutter speed were set at 1/5 and 5.6.

This photo was also taken using a 18 zoom lens, inside. The histogram fell short on the white column. The f-stop and shutter speed were set at 1/6 and 5.6.

Continuing with colors, I added more shades of red. This photo was taken using a 18 zoom lens, inside. The histogram showed color throughout the entire spectrum. The f-stop and shutter speed were set at 1/5 and 5.6.

I saw something similar in class and wanted to try it. This photo was taken using a 300mm zoom lens, inside. The histogram fell short on the white column and the f-stop and shutter speed were set at 1/250 and 5.0. I also set the focus point to focus on the base of the yellow of the sunflower.

One of the things that I learned is that when taking pictures in the house, I need to program the light meter to -1. This actually adds more light in the picture.

This photo was taken using a 300mm zoom lens, outside. The histogram covered the entire spectrum and the f-stop and shutter speed were set at 1/125 and 9.0. The sunflower would have been better if it faced the sun directly and not from the side.
